Even as a very active "faithful" Christian several years ago, I was able to peg Rick Warren's "Purpose Driven Life" as the ultimate ironic play on selfishness...and boy was that gig $ucce$$ful for that ministry. The first four words of the book are "It's not about you.", and immediately all of the eager readers felt so much better about reading the book and pursuing their purpose because right from the start, they had been assured that this endeavor was not selfish.
It's no secret that people are immensely interested in knowing their purpose in life. So why not just acknowledge our selfish interest in experiencing a fulfilling life? It is about you.
At the recently mentioned de-conversion website, a contributor wrote a great piece about "Creating Our Own Purpose Driven Life" for those of us in the world who no longer look to religion to provide our purpose. Take a moment to read the full article. Here is a quote: "The evolution of these physical characteristics has led to our search for meaning and given us the ability to look beyond our basic biological needs and instincts to choose a higher path. There is always someone to help, something to improve, something to hope for." CLICK HERE FOR THE REST
